City Mission of Schenectady begins winter coat distribution | Community Spirit
The City Mission of Schenectady has announced that it will begin to distribute winter coats to people in need Wednesday and Thursday.
The coats will be received by prior appointment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wallace E. Campbell Dining Center located at 512 Smith Street in downtown Schenectady. Volunteers will be preparing for the distribution at the Dining Center on Tuesday evening, October 5th, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The coats are available at no charge on a first come first serve basis. "This is the first of a series of distribution days," says Liz Chamberlain, Director of Development at the City Mission. "Each year we give away at least 1,000 coats, and so as other volunteers complete their coat campaigns, we will continue to distribute them." In addition to participating in ongoing coat campaigns, individuals can drop off gently used and clean winter coats directly to the Mission at the drop off warehouse, located at 425 Hamilton Street in Schenectady.
Numerous volunteers and volunteer groups have assisted the Mission by organizing campaigns and competitions to encourage donations. Among them is Sunmark Federal Credit Union, which dropped off 400 coats to the Mission that were donated by customers in response to a competitive challenge between the employees in two departments at the bank.
