Schenectady County DA comments on DNA databank expansion | News
Schenectady County District Attorney Robert M. Carney has issued a statement after hearing the news that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Legislature have agreed upon a DNA databank expansion.
“I thank the Legislature for listening to victims of crime, the law enforcement community, and defense attorneys who know that expanding the DNA databank to include samples from everyone convicted of a crime will advance our ability to learn truths about who has committed crimes and who hasn’t,” said Carney in a statement. “Many proposed reforms of the criminal justice system are subjective in nature – depending on your viewpoint they improve or weaken our criminal law – but DNA expansion is objectively good for all New Yorkers and the Governor deserves our thanks for his outstanding leadership to make this happen.”
