Pig Out BBQ opens on Upper Union Street | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Pig Out BBQ has opened at 1599 Upper Union Street in Schenectady. The menu features Texas and Carolina barbeque sandwiches and dinners that include pulled pork, brisket, ribs, chicken and smoked sausage with traditional sides.
The 10 table restaurant is owned by Mark Capano and the restaurant now occupies the site where Rubbin Butts once was. Manager of Pig Out BBQ, Brandon Reploeg was on the Rubbin Butts staff which still operates from its original Schoharie location.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark, Brandon and the Pig Out BBQ team to Upper Union Street,” said Chris DiCocco, Chair of the Upper Union Street Business Improvement District (BID) in a statement. “The food is great. Barbeque is a great fit for the already diverse Upper Union Street food scene.”
Mark Capano began his career in the food industry working as a dishwasher in Gloversville at the age of 16. He worked through college to become a cook and was trained by a cook who went to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.
Capano went on to purchase the diner in Gloversville that he grew up working in and he and his ex-wife ran the business. Capano is an electrical engineer with an MBA and also owns a semi-pro football team called the Glove-Cities Colonials that play out of Johnstown.
